Reception on the occasion of the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia

A reception was held on Monday, February 16, 2026, organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in Trieste, on the occasion of the Meeting - Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia.The reception was attended by numerous guests, including the Director of the Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Vladimir Kokanović, and the President of the Church Municipality of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Trieste, Mr. Zlatimir Selaković. Guests of the Consulate General were also representatives of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, the city of Trieste, the Trieste consular corps, representatives of religious communities, and representatives of all Serbian associations from the jurisdiction of the Consulate General.

For the first time, the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia organized a reception on the occasion of the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia in the hall of the Church Community of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the portico of the Church of Saint Spyridon in Trieste, thereby highlighting the secular and spiritual unity of Serbs in Trieste. The host of the reception, Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in Trieste, Mr. Nemanja Sekitski, addressed those present after the singing of the anthems of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Italy, and in his speech emphasized the importance of the First Serbian Uprising and the Sretenje Constitution, and the struggle of the Serbian people for freedom and independence. Pointing out the centuries-old presence of Serbs in the city of Trieste and the deep mark they have left in the spiritual, cultural and architectural sense, the Consul General recalled the prominent figures of the Serbian people who lived and created in this city. Consul General Sekitski particularly referred to the cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Italy, which is woven from mutual trust, fruitful cooperation and strategic partnership, and finally thanked the Serbian Orthodox Church in Trieste, as well as to all clubs and associations of the Serbian diaspora in northeastern Italy, for their unity and long-standing cooperation.

With a focus on Serbia's impressive achievements in overall development and modernization over the past decade, "Expo2027Belgrade" was specially presented to numerous dignitaries from Friuli Venezia Giulia, the city of Trieste and the diplomatic corps, as well as Serbian citizens from Northeastern Italy with an invitation to visit our country next year, which, thanks to this specialized international exhibition, will be the world capital of knowledge exchange, innovation, technological and cultural achievements from at least 135 countries, which have so far confirmed their participation in this exhibition. The reception was enriched with the melodies of young Serbian musicians who are studying at the Tartini Conservatory in Trieste.
