The Building of the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in Trieste
In 1911, the architect Giacomo Zamatio designed a villa at Strada del Friuli 54 in Trieste for the Panfili family. Located in one of the most panoramic locations in the city, the building is set in the middle of a large park. The villa is an eclectic structure loosely inspired by the models and typologies of central Italy from the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

The side of the building facing the street has a simple volume composed of two adjacent, almost cubic structures of different heights, while the side facing the sea has more dynamic surfaces, with a large porch with pointed arches and long terraces with white stone balustrades. On the exterior surfaces, the juxtaposition of red brick and white Istrian stone creates an elegant contrast of colors. Zamatio also supervised the work on the interior of the building, which is still well preserved, where all the furniture and decorative details reflect the eclectic taste of the architecture of the time. The richly decorated villa and its interior are adorned with sumptuous wooden inlays. This villa today houses the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia.
